“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 42 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I’ve ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.

8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.

12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.

21. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

24. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’

25. Always choose life.

26. Forgive everyone everything.

27. What other people think of you is none of your business.

28. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

30. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does

31. Believe in miracles.

32. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.

33. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

34. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.

35. Your children get only one childhood.

36. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

37. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

38. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.

39. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

40. The best is yet to come…

41. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

42. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.”

Its estimated 93% won’t share this. If you are one of the 7%,then share this with the title ‘The 7%’.

A BEAUTIFUL EVENING ON JULY 28TH

It is high time when my friend came to Hyderabad to spend her weekend here. Chilkur is first in my mind to visit as there is always an association between “Lord Venkateswara and we together”, whenever met.

The time is quarter past 4pm, day before yesterday. She dressed to the nines looking beautiful in that attire. We started from my place on a two wheeler, crossed Gachibowli flyover and entered the highway which is clean enough to maintain a speed of 70kmph.

The ride is awesome. The blazing sun calmed down to hide in the clouds as we passed through the ring road. The sunset is beautiful so do the weather too. As i raised the speed, cool chilled breeze passed on us and the “Moment is wonderful”.

There were many blocks we found in the onward journey like missing an accident, lost our way, crossed through the checking spot(with no documents of bike), irrespective of which we reached our destiny. We thought “It may be because of Lord who protected us while visiting him”.

As i reached there I parked my bike and we together walked some distance talking about the familiarity of the temple “Making some wishes to come true”. Bought two coconuts leaving our footwear there in a shop where the aunt looked so pleasing and helping while seeing us.

Few steps towards the temple i was struck with Hijra’s surrounding me, about which she talked before, while we were riding to this place (I came to know the power of her predictions later). She gave a pleasing looks when I was left with 15rs in my wallet and they demanded its minimum 100Rs for our group of 4. They took that 15rs and left away leaving my wallet empty.

We entered the temple and broke our coconuts at a single moment with a single shot where her 2 halves slipped into the deep and my other half left in my hand. As I turned it I could see a beautiful yellow flower beneath it blooming out. Looking into her owly eyes I have said “My wish will come true”. She smiled… I smiled :)…!!!

We had a peaceful darshan of  “Lord Venkateshwara”  and that was the first time I have seen him closely in Chilkur. We sat for few minutes tasting the flower in the coconut. Had some shopping while coming out of the temple were she bought 2 earrings. Reached the coconut shop, wear our footwear and finally thanked the aunt for coconut with a flower… She smiled…We smiled :)…!!!

We hurriedly came out to the parking place as I thought her to make a visit to one of the wonderful spots in Hyderabad. As we were returning we were stopped by the guard at the same checkpoint. He told to pay fine for either pollution(one) or both documents(two) which were not there with me. With a confusing smile I understood his intention. She kept a 100Rs note in his hungry hands.

We thought

“In this world money can make people anything and so do the people with it :)”

As we came to this beautiful spot(Gandipet Cheruvu) there is thick flow of air from one side. We could see the river making the waves like a sea as they reach the banks of the river. The breeze was very fast. Few Couples, Lovers, Friends like us were sitting near the bank, some were fishing. She surprised to see those beautiful designs formed in the sky.

At that moment “I thought this is the best spot I have ever seen in Hyderabad”. She made her second wish “It would be more beautiful if it rains”. After 10 min the droplets started falling making her wish come true.

Unlike me she likes playing in rain very much. The downpour increased rapidly.  With much hardness I made our way to a small park entrance which is on the bank of the river.

Shared a pack of orange lays and played with a kid who is in his mothers hug. She made her third prediction “The rain will stop for a while for 30 min and then it shows its anger”. We had a few clicks hurriedly after the rain stopped. We started as the darkness shadowed us.

As i drove beside the highway i found a calm, lonely, nice place to the side of the road, to sit and talk for sometime. There were nice flowers near the footpath and with little day light the sun rays were glooming from beneath the earth. The mirrage was fallen on the zenith making the sky little more bright and clear.

We sat down facing the sun at 90 degree to the highway. We talked about our families and the diverse backgrounds we came from and suddenly it went dark.

We started after a while knowing it was so late and all of  a sudden it rained again, now with much heavy downpour making her prediction true. Slowly i increased the speed to reach our place soon and then with a jetting speed as the rain showed her anger on us. We were wet and i have never stopped as there were few underpasses of the highway. The road is straight and never ending.

After sometime we stopped at the end of an underpass which is under the flyover. It is very dark out there and few people taking shelter to our right and left. I noticed something falling with a thud like a waterfall at the end of it and came to know that it is a heavy downpour of mud water from the flyover.  I started my bike with headlights on making my girl knew the happening in front of us. Slowly I raised the accelerator looking at the downpour…….and she knew it 🙂

She shouted “No…!!! No Anand Please No…No No No No…Ooooh…!!! 😦  finally It happened”. After passing through it I said “This is my TIME ;)…” We went through the straight road getting wetter and the end never came. She made her fourth prediction “What if our vehicle stops now”.

After a while my bike stopped due to cooling effect. Surprising…!!! I haven’t observed her predictions till then and all those revolving through my mind when she made her fourth one.

We were walking for a while. Her mother is calling her but she is unable to attend it due to heavy rain and wet clothes. I told her to call aunt as soon as she reach home. She made her fifth prediction  “Start now…!!! the bike will start”.  It started obviously and I drove her for sometime. In the middle of the go I asked her whether we make it to our place safely :)?… She smiled and answered  “Yeah no problem we will reach safely”.

It is a dark road beside the highway and nothing is visible to me in that heavy rain. After a while she made her sixth prediction “The rainfall will get low” and now I could see the way clearly. Slowly I increased the speed and suddenly heard some voice from behind. As I was turning my head back she made her sixth “A bad energy is following us, we will be in a problem. Please drive cautiously”.

It is very hard to see the far away place in front of me. As we came closer, to my surprise the road came to an end with a muddy wall in front of us. Stopped for a while wearing a “What to do looks seeing each other”. We turned back on the same way and while driving fast, I could sense a muddy road with corner of my right eye, which she objected. Turned back and this is my time where I could find a muddy road connecting to the highway.

We traveled, traveled and traveled and finally she guessed “I think this is the wrong path because the city seems to be very far“. My senses got opened only to visualize that we were traveling in a wrong path. I decided not to go back as it would head to some place in the city. As we traveled in a wrong direction in that highway the headlights of trucks, buses, cards were fallen in our eyes leaving them glittered with a golden spark.

After sometime we asked a truck driver whether this road heads to Hyderabad?. He said you should either go 15km back or take 2 km down the flyover and 5 km to right to reach Patancheruvu. I drove forward thinking that the later is better saying her that we will reach soon. She made her seventh “What if the bike fails again” and finally it was.  “Gosh…!!!  I have never seen such a mouth in my Life”. We walked for sometime and I pleaded all the way to make her “eighth” but she never did instead she smiled seeing my face.

After a couple of minutes she told “The rain will get heavy again” and so does the nature reciprocated. Never thought I got drenched in the rain that way for the past 10 years. She loves it but I ain’t. After we got down the flyover I could see the street lights heading to right and left, and one uncle helped us find our way. He asked “what happened to your bike?.. Is it a fuel problem?”. I gave him a weird look “What do you know about evil predictions?” and said “No…!!! Its an engine problem as we were struck in rain”.

Finally she told to start my bike and it started. We headed towards Pathancheruvu and I felt happy seeing people and vehicles around us. After 3km again she said the bike will stop and this time unable to control my anger I shouted “Will you please shut your mouth and your dirty stuff…!!!”. She was amazed seeing such a face for the first time. I tried to start my bike but I could never make it. We walked for a while and i could observe a silence between us. I told her “Sorry…!!! I will not repeat it”. She giggled… I giggled 🙂 …!!!

An old man(truck driver) was walking beside us to buy some mosquito coils as he couldn’t sleep in his truck for the past two nights. We cracked some jokes and finally she chuckled…!!! and more of em…!!! she had a big laugh on her face. I said “Wear it…!!! It suits you always “.

The downpour calmed down slowly. Finally I could have a watch on my bike only to see that the fuel indicator was still in ON state. I turned it to RESERVED and the bike started suddenly. Without telling this to her I have said “See the bike will not stop until we reach our place” and she surprised to hear such thing from me :).

We reached our place safely with fully drenched in rain and some shivering effect. Drove her to “Siddique Kebab Center” which is my favorite spot and ordered “Grilled Chicken”. It is very hot and spicy I served my favorite dish to her.

I asked her “How was the evening?”.“Yeah…it is nice and memorable”. Then I told her that “I’ll make this a storyline in my memoirs“. She agreed..!!!

I started playing jokes there after, whenever something happened to me then I call her and ask did u predict this?… she replies with a thud laugh on her face…“No…!!! :)”

Its 10p.m…!!!
Adiós…!!!
